Jesse Rogers, age 96, of Stanton, KY passed away August 18, 2016 at his residence. Jesse was born in Montgomery County, KY to George M. and Maggie (Magdalene) Rogers on March 22, 1920. He was the fourth of 11 children. Jesse graduated from Camargo High School; afterward he went to Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY for one year and then Morehead College for one year.  Jesse volunteered to go to the service for WWII, however he was denied because of a heart murmur. He then volunteered to work at Wright’s Aircraft Engine Factory in Cincinnati during the war.  After the war, he returned to Mt. Sterling, KY; worked at J.C. Penny’s in the men’s department, met his future wife, Louise there and after dating for about a year, they were married on January 22, 1949. Jesse’s brothers George and Oliver bought a Southern States franchise and opened it on July 1, 1948. After Oliver and George went to college, Jesse and Louise ran Stanton Farmers Supply for 42 years. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, George M. and Maggie Rogers, brother Isaac in WWII and sisters Pearl, Sylvia and Loreba.  Jesse is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise Marsh Rogers; sons, Stephen (Vicky) and Paul (Leanne); six grandchildren:  David (Audrey) Rogers, Amy (Joshua) Hartwigsen, Crawford Rogers, AnnaClair Rogers, Alec Rogers and Mari Caroline Rogers and four great grandchildren: Camden Rogers, Brenna Rogers, Ian Hartwigsen and Ira Hartwigsen; brothers: George (Deloris) Rogers, Oliver (Norma) Rogers and Lawrence Rogers and by sisters, Reniva Riessinger and Dorma (Gene) Rainey. Jesse was the founder and a devout member of the Stanton Church of Christ and was a committed and faithful Christian. He was an elder of the congregation for many years. Jesse was known as a very honest businessman. He was a respected citizen of Stanton and Powell County. He was on the 4-H Council for about 40 years and he was the chairman Stanton Housing Authority from June 4, 1963 until January 1, 2006. The family expresses sincere appreciation to Dr. Charles Noss for the years of care he gave to Jesse and Louise. Funeral services officiated by Bro. Stephen Rogers will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Visitation from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Friday and from 9:00 A.M. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Stanton Cemetery with Barton Rogers, Russell Rogers, Crawford Rogers, Alec Rogers, David Rogers, Camdon Rogers and Joshua Hartwigsen serving as pallbearers.
