Helen Stokley Abner, age 86, widow of Harding Abner of Stanton, KY passed away at her residence on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Born in Clay City, KY she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lula Mae Snowden Stokley. She was employed 40 years with Lexington Bluegrass Army Depot as an administrative assistant. Helen and Harding Abner opened Abner's Motel in Stanton in 1955 and Lil' Abner Motel and Restaurant at Slade in 1970. They also operated Abner's Restaurant and Drive-In in Clay City during the 1960's. In addition to her parents and husband she is also preceded in death by two brothers, William Stokley and Bernard Stokley. She is survived by her son, Billy D. Abner and his wife Lois of Winchester; two grandchildren: Chad Abner and his wife Davida and Casey Abner of Winchester; one great grandchild, Cacia Rose; three nieces: Joanie Hale and her husband Steve and Donna Roberts and her husband Mike of Clay City and Glenda Walls and her husband Bill of Lexington; one nephew, Johnny Stokley of Clay City along with a loving companion, her Jack Russell "Spot". Visitation begins at 5:00 P.M. Friday at Hearne Funeral Home, Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Graveside service officiated by Chad Abner will be conducted at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Donnie G. Randall Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Stanton with Gary Abner, Chris Abner, J. T. Abner, Rick Helton, Bernard Wireman and Jeff Browning serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are present and former employees of Abner's Motel, Lil' Abner Motel and Restaurant, Abner's Restaurant and Drive-In, Donna Gabbard, Charlene Kennon, Mary Abney, Cathy Barker, Bessie Willoughby, Charity Pinkerton and Hospice East.
