P. D. Todd, age 87, widower of Wilma Kincaid Todd, of West College Avenue, Stanton, KY passed away at his residence on Monday, December 21, 2015 following a long illness. Born in Clay City, KY he was the son of the late Mitchell and Mary Begley Todd and a retired (1983) Union Group Leader with the Inland Manufacturing Division of General Motors. He was a member and trustee of Powell's Valley Baptist Church and the former owner (1968 - 1977) of Stanton Shell Service Station and Todd's Used Cars. His central focus was his family and he enjoyed taking truck rides, selling and being around cars. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by two grandchildren: Jordan Hunter Merriman and Aaron Michael Todd Carr; one sister, Alta Alexander; six brothers: Everett Todd, Parnell Todd, James Todd, Clifton "Ticky" Todd, Russell Todd and Wallace Todd along with his special nephew, Billy Cassidy. He is survived by two sons: Phillip (Virginia) Todd and Paul (Mariam) Todd both of Stanton; three daughters: Gloria (Sam) Carr of Richmond, Mary (Mark) Jutras of Charlotte, NC and Kathy (Mark) Merriman of Stanton; three sisters: Anna Marie Baker of Nicholasville, Aleen (Carl) Rhodes of Irvine and Galda Logston of Richmond; 11 grandchildren: Shelley Carr, Laura Carr and Adam Carr, Becki (Brad) Hays, Derick Todd, Justin Todd, Autumn (Michael) Chandler, Lauren Jutras, Drew Merriman, Janzen (Whitney) Merriman and Aubrey Todd and by 10 great grandchildren: Kaylee Carr Harrison, Kelsey Carr White, Kaden Carr White, Cruse Carr Pingleton, Dalton Hays, Declan Hays, Kincaid Chandler, Mary Austin Chandler, Reece Chandler and Jacie Todd. He worked for GM in Dayton, Ohio and made the long trip home each weekend to be with his family. As he would say, "all those years and I never had an accident and never got a speeding ticket". He retired from GM in 1983 but never stopped working. He believed a man's value is defined by his work. He got up each morning with a job in mind. He bought and sold cars throughout his life. Taking a drive was his greatest pass time. When he had to give up driving it was a sad day-to put it politely. He very reluctantly settled for taking a ride with someone else doing the driving but reminded each driver of his perfect driving record. He was a hardworking man who provided well for his family. When his wife, Wilma, became ill and disabled, he took care of her and quickly learned to take housework seriously. He was blessed with good health with his first hospitalization coming at age 86 when Alzheimer's and a stroke took control of his life. It is an understatement to say we will miss him. "Daddy, we hope you are taking a long ride on a sunny day!" Funeral services officiated by Rev. Kim Rose will be held at 3:30 P.M. Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Visitation begins at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Powell's Valley Cemetery with Derick Todd, Justin Todd, Janzen Merriman, Adam Carr, Brad Hays, Hondo Hearne and Chad Birch serving as active pallbearers.
