Darnell Clay Fletcher, age 77, of Clay City, KY passed away on Sunday morning, June 1, 2014 at U K Medical Center, Lexington, KY. Born in West Bend, KY he was the son of the late Earl and Julia Davis Fletcher and he was a veteran of the U S Air Force. He retired from El Paso Energy after 37 years of service and received several awards. Darnell Fletcher was on the nominating committee for Clark Energy and served on the Powell County Farm Bureau and the Cooperative Extension Service of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture. He was a member of the Powell County Cattlemen's Association and life long lover of farming. Darnell was a member and Sunday school superintendent and teacher of Pine Grove C.M.E. Church and the caretaker of Pine Grove Cemetery. He served on several state and regional committees with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He gave many hours of volunteer service to the Berea Health Ministry Mission Service and was a former member of the Winchester Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Dortha Thomas Fletcher. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Cora Newell Fletcher; three children: Dwayne Fletcher and Vanessa Fletcher of Lexington, KY and Randall Hill of Winchester, KY; two grandchildren, Galen and Matthew Clay Fletcher; numerous cousins and best friend, Leroy Williams. Visitation begins at 5:00 P.M. Friday, June 6, 2014 and funeral services officiated by Rev. Diane Flora will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery with Leroy Williams, Steve Pruett, Mike Manning, James South, Kenneth Williams and William Newell serving as active pallbearers.
