Gale Kalar, age 70, of 1650 Black Creek Rd. Clay City, KY, surrounded by his loving family, passed away February 15, 2014 at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, after a courageous eight month battle with lung cancer. Born in Bowen, Kentucky, the son of the late Hillard and Arnice Jackson Kalar, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. Gale loved sports especially anything UK ; but his greatest passion was roaming his beloved farm. He was also a member of The Clay City United Methodist Church and retired superintendent of Fluor Corporation. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Polly Watson Kalar, as well as a son, Gene Kalar (Missy) of Slade and a daughter, Missy Maxwell (David) , two grandchildren, Will and Emma Finlinson and one great-grandchild, Lindon all of Indianapolis, Indiana, two sisters, Ganell Smith (Hubert) and Darlene Gay, sister-in laws, Sharon Watson and Arlene Rogers as well as two brother-in laws, David Watson (Paula) and Roger Watson (Angie). He also had many nieces and nephews including Dr. Shelly Rogers (Gary Thacker), Allison , Emily, Benjamin, and Lindsay Watson, Phillip Gay Jr., Alissa and Andrea Smith. Through his hard fought battle with cancer, Gale received the most caring treatment and advice from his wonderful doctor, Dr. Muhammad-Ali Zaydan . Throughout this journey of cancer his champion was his beloved niece, Dr. Shelly Rogers. We will be forever grateful to them both. Gale was a very caring and generous man to his family and friends and was a mentor to many. He kept his wonderful sense of humor to the end. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Active pallbearers include Benjamin Watson, Chad Rice, Wallace Reed, Ricky Tyra, Charles Faulkner, and Timmy Tipton. Honorary pallbearers are David Watson, Roger Watson, Gary Thacker, Hubert Smith, Phillip Gay Jr., Andy Estes, Charles Gary Townsend, Fred Baesler, Harry Whitehead, Wendell Stephens, Millard Skidmore, Shirley Gay Crabtree, Ray Duff, Butch Bloom, Billy Rose, David Puckett, Harold "Dubbie" Shannon, Winfred Hughes, Dutch Tipton, Gary Spry, Syl Knox, Delbert Mullins, Darren Mullins, Lester Hall, Zack Fugate, Rondall Banks and the members of the Clay City United Methodist Church. Services will be held at Hearne Funeral Home in Stanton with visitation starting at 5:00 PM Tuesday, February 18, 2014 and with funeral services officiated by Kim Rose at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 19, 2014.
