Lawrence Townsend, age 77, of Elwood, IN passed away on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital. He was born on Oct. 31, 1935 to the late Russell and Bessie Townsend. On June 1, 1965 he married Beverly (Graber) Townsend. Lawrence retired as fork truck operator from Stokleys located in Peru, IN. He enjoyed old cars, sprint car racing, gardening, hunting, fishing and just being outdoors. Lawrence is survived by his sons: Robyn (Angie) Townsend, Shawn (Kristi Bledsoe) Townsend and Clint (Tia) Townsend all of Elwood, IN; by his grandsons: Joe (Kelli) Waters of Ft. Wayne, IN, Chris (Stacy) Townsend of Seymour, IN, Jeff (Caitlin) Waters of Carmel, IN, Bruce Townsend of Ft. Wayne, IN and Marc Townsend of Ft. Wayne, IN; granddaughters: Becky Townsend of Ft. Wayne, IN and Alanna Townsend of Elwood, IN; great granddaughter, Alulah Rae Waters of Ft. Wayne, IN; eight brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Townsend, his father, Russell Townsend, his mother, Bessie Townsend, his brother, Tom Townsend and his sister, Mary Spencer. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood, IN and on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Hearne Funeral Home, Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Hearne Funeral Home, Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY followed by burial in Townsend Cemetery, Stanton, KY.
