Benny L. Bryant, age 73, husband of Thelma Smith Bryant, of Rogers, KY died on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Saint Joseph East in Lexington, KY. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter, Edye Bryant of Lexington, KY and by his son, Benny L. Bryant, II of Morehead, KY. Born in Rogers, KY he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Narcissus Brooks Bryant and he was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. Benny Bryant was a former teacher at Wolfe County High School, a retired Drivers License Examiner with the Kentucky State Police and a former Commonwealth Detective. He was the owner of Ye Ole Country Peddler on Natural Bridge Road and he attended Campton United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Wolfe County Jaycees and the Natural Bridge-Powell County Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Wolfe County Kiwanis Club and the Powell County Lions Club and he was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. Visitation begins at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday and his funeral services officiated by Rev. Jim Doughton will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, September 20, 2013 at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue in Stanton, KY. Interment will be alongside his parents in the Rogers Cemetery, Rogers, KY with James Wayne Johnson, Bill Bryant, Benny Ray Bryant, Steve Koutoulas, Mike Abbot and Dave Smith serving as his active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Granville Deaton, Carol Amyx, Lonnie Dowdy, Babe Howard, Tommy Howard, Wendell Brewer, Linda Alexander, Brett Brooks, George Graham, Jim Smith, J. R. Smith, Paul Smith, Kenny Smith and John Cox. Memorial contributions can be made to Campton United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 159, Campton, KY 41301. Arrangements by Hearne Funeral Home, Inc.
