Lois Jean Rogers, age 80, wife of Lawrence B. Rogers of East College Avenue, Stanton, KY left this life on Sunday morning, June 9, 2013 at her residence surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Leeco, KY on April 24, 1933, the eighth of ten children born to the late Russell Bowen, Sr. and the late Jane Hobbs Bowen. She graduated from Powell County High School in 1952. After working at Cowden Manufacturing in Mt. Sterling and Natural Bridge State Park for several years, she met and married Lawrence B. Rogers of Montgomery County. They established their home together in Stanton and had three daughters, Janice Hall of Lexington, KY, Wilma (Jon) Skidmore of Stanton, KY and Annita (Mark) Rucker of Lexington, KY. In the mid 1960's Lawrence and Jean started Rogers Hardware and Building Supply in Stanton, which was the first building supply store in the area. Although she had a keen sense for business and numbers, her true passion was visiting with all of the customers, especially the children, who frequented the store with their parents. She was always known to have a lollipop, or other goodie, and a smile for all the children who came to visit. She continued working there until she retired in June, 2011. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, singing and spending time with her three grandchildren, Shelley Skidmore of Nashville, TN, Whitney Hall of Nashville, TN and Jonathan Skidmore of Stanton, KY. She was an active member of Cat Creek Church of Christ. Her commitment to giving to others in the community was a true reflection of her love of God. Other surviving relatives include one sister, Annette Billings of Stanton, KY, two sisters in law, Bonnie Bowen of Stanton, KY and Karen Bowen of Irvine, KY and two step-grandchildren, Mason and Abby Rucker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by six brothers: Forrest Bowen, Kenneth Bowen, Garrett Bowen, Russell Bowen, Jr., James Bowen and Warren Bowen and by two sisters, Jeckyl Bowen Spencer and Yvonne Marie Bowen. Funeral services officiated by Pastor Dwaine Meadows will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Stanton Cemetery with John Bowen, Phillip Bowen, Steve Billings, Mark Bowen, Jimmy Hall, Kevin Bowen, Jonathan Skidmore and Brian Billings serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Loretta McIntosh, Bonnie Bowen, Jan Riley, Eva Meadows, Talmadge and Mariam Smallwood. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice East or the Alzheimer's Association.
