James "Goose" Goodwin, age 56, of Paint Creek Road, Stanton, KY passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 at U K Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Born in Mt. Sterling, KY he was the son of the late Virgil Ernest Goodwin, Sr. and the late Alwena Smallwood Goodwin and he was a member of Bowen First Church of God. James "Goose" Goodwin was a member of the l974 Powell County High School 14th Region Basketball Championship Team and he was named the 1974 MVP of the 14th Region. He was a member of the 1974 East-West All Star Basketball Team and a member of the Powell County High School Hall of Fame. James Goodwin was a graduate and played his college basketball at Lander College in Greenwood, SC from 1975 thru 1979. He married Myra Walker Goodwin on October 20, 1984 and they are the parents of three sons: James Brandon Goodwin, Brett Goodwin and Ryan Goodwin all of Stanton, KY. He is the brother of Virgil Ernest Goodwin, Jr. and his wife, Gloria of Athens, TN, David Ray Goodwin and his wife Cheryl of Stanton, KY, Elizabeth Ann Keith and her husband, Mark of Winchester, KY and the late William Franklin Goodwin and the late Janet Carol Goodwin. His nephews and nieces are Daphne Keith, Becky Vallejo, Emily Cox, Jonathan (Carol) Goodwin, William Goodwin, Jarod Goodwin and the late Mark William Keith. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Shepherd. Visitation begins at 5:00 P.M. Saturday at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Funeral services officiated by Pastor Steven Williams, David Fraley and Jonathan Goodwin will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Bowen First Church of God, 5555 Campton Road, Stanton, KY. Interment will be in Stanton Cemetery with Jay Means, Roger Overbee, Delbert Brown, Lawrence Cox, Winfred Hughes, Greg Briscoe, Bill Abner and Steve Grogan serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Shirley Crabtree, Bud Parks, Scotty Frazier, David Fraley, Mike Crowe, Mary Shepherd, Frank Fletcher, Mark Keith, Otto Young, Jeep Bowen, Talmadge Smallwood, Scott Johnson, Mike Lockard and members of the 1974 Powell County High School 14th Region Basketball Championship Team.
