Millie Abner, age 90, widow of Floyd Abner, of Caudill Road, Stanton, KY died on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, KY. Born in Slade, KY she was the daughter of the late Robert and Edna Lee Ewen and she was a member of the Stanton Christian Church for 85 years. She was a former Sunday school teacher at her church, a former troop leader for the cub scouts and she was a founding member of the Stanton Women's Club and secretary of the selective service board. Millie Abner began her teaching career in a two room school house with Inez Woodard and then she taught in a one room school at Vaughns Mill. She also taught head start for several years and third grade at Stanton Elementary. Mrs. Abner retired from teaching as the librarian of Powell County Middle School. She was an avid gardener and farmer, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her positive attitude and zest for life was an inspiration to so many. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Garland and Asa Ewen and by two sisters, Jean Riggs and Beauty Hoskins. She is survived by three sons: Gary (Sissy) Abner and Darryl (Linda) Abner of Stanton, KY and Rick (Barbara) Abner of Stamping Ground, KY; eight grandchildren: Dana (James) Yin, Marisa Abner and her fiancé, C. J. Faulkner, Ike (Melanie) Abner, Kimberly (Justin) DeWitt, Floyd Abner, Hannah (Brian) Simpkins, Abigail Abner and Seth Abner; five great grandchildren: Hunter Hill Yin, Alexa Noelle Yin, HayLeigh Abner, ShiAnne Abner and Teghan Abner and by three sisters-in-law, Helen Abner, Louise Abner and Della Abner. Visitation begins at 5:00 P.M. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Hearne Funeral Home, Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Funeral services officiated by Rev. David Bowden and Rev. Barry Wethington will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Stanton Christian Church, 100 West Church Street, Stanton, KY. Interment will follow in Stanton Cemetery with Billy Abner, Karl Adams, Wayne Lee Riggs, J. T. Abner, Chris Abner, Danny Rogers, Tom Graham and Dick Fain serving as active pallbearers, Honorary pallbearers are Helen Abner, Louise Abner, Della Abner, John and Kathryn Cox, Nora Lee Walters, Jean Derickson, Irene Francis, Sherry Skidmore, Ada Rogers, Mark and Jodie Brandenburg and all of her friends and neighbors on Hatton Creek.
