Christine “Dude” Wells, age 92, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at her home in Clay City, Kentucky. She was born in Clay City, on January 29, 1932, to the late Sarah Ann Crowe. Dude was a dedicated and devoted member of Vaughn’s Mill First Church of God, where she lived out her faith in a sincere and heartfelt way. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she held her grandsons and great-grandchildren in a special and cherished place in her heart. In Dude’s leisure time, she found joy in the art of quilting, the creative expression of coloring, and the relaxation of solving word searches. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her foster parents, Robert and Flossie Crowe; her husband, Harley Wells; her son: Michael Wells; two foster brothers: Kenneth Crowe and Eunice Crowe; and two foster sisters: Polly Davis and Lucy Ann Crowe. Dude is survived by two daughters: Sherry (Bob “Birdman”) Hicks of Clay City and Shell (Jesse) Shepherd of Irvine; two grandchildren: Ross Pary Hicks and Jesse Ray Shepherd, Jr.; and three great-grandchildren: Jonathan Ross Hicks, Colten Harley Hicks, and Alexander Pary Hicks. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Ted Linkous will be held at the funeral home at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Burial will be held at Kennon Cemetery in Clay City with Jesse Shepherd, Mike Spivey, Ross Hicks, Brandon Miller, Sammy Wells, and Brad King serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Vaughn’s Mill First Church of God, Garnetta Parker, Ivory Wells, and Mary Lou Potts. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton.
