Iona Sorrell Anderson, age 77, of Clay City, widow of the late Vivian Eugene “Bib” Anderson, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester. Born in Montgomery County, Kentucky on March 14, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Charles Otto Sorrell and the late Leeoma Sargent Sorrell. She worked as a seamstress throughout her life at Cowden Manufacturing, Carhartt Manufacturing, Winchester Clothing and Curley’s Manufacturing. After retirement she operated Anderson’s Upholstery performing work on furniture, vehicle interiors, tent tops, motorcycle seats and boat interiors. She loved gardening, painting, fishing and playing bingo at AMVET’s post in Clay City. She enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas “The Young and The Restless” and “The Bold and The Beautiful”. Iona loved her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed making homemade apple fritters and being around all sorts of animals. In addition to her parents and her husband, Iona was preceded in death by one sister, Ola “Dodie” Mae Hayes. She is survived by three sons: James (Vanda) Fountain of Jeffersonville, David Fountain and Christoper (Amy) Anderson both of Clay City; four daughters: Shelia Sons of Means, Cynthia (Raymond) Goodwin of Jeffersonville, Tina Esteppe of Winchester and Melissa Chasteen of Salt Lick; two brothers: Charles Sorrell of Tennessee and Marvin Sorrell of Alabama; three sisters: Frances Patton of Jeffersonville, Sue Flora of Cynthiana and Wanda Sorrell of Clay City; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren and her fur baby dog, Gizmo. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. with the funeral services, officiated by Brother Dale Payne, immediately following at 2:00 P.M. at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Burial will be at Stanton Cemetery with Travis Olinger, Hunter Esteppe, Johnny Ray Anderson, James Anderson, Jim Bob Powell and Kaleb Fuller serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons: Charles Anderson, Chris Goodwin, and Chester Goodwin, son-in-law Raymond Goodwin, Hondo Hearne and staff of Hearne Funeral Home and all of her bingo buddies at AMVET’s in Clay City. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home, Inc. of Stanton.
