Janet Lavern Meadows, age 83, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home and into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, April 17, 2025, surrounded by her children. She was born in Powell County, Kentucky, on June 24, 1941, to the late English and Mattie Willoughby King. Janet was a lifelong member of the Cane Creek Union Church and taught Sunday School for many of those years. She loved to play the guitar and sing at church every Sunday. She was a devoted follower of Christ and loved Jesus more than anything. She will be remembered for her compassion, generosity, and her commitment to making anyone feel loved and welcome. Her warm smile and gentle spirit were always shared with anyone she met. She cared deeply for her friends and neighbors, and not out of obligation, but because that is just who she was. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her biggest joy in life, and she always loved for them to be around her. Janet worked for CMS, Inc. for 26 years, with many of those years being in the role of Supervisor. She always wanted people on the line to do their best and made sure they followed through with their expectations. During her time, she made many friendships, and the people there respected her highly. After retiring, she was not ready to stay at home all day, so she went back to work at Nestle for about 10 years, and then she was ready to stay home. She enjoyed working in her yard and raising a garden. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Jean Morton; brothers: Donald King, Thomas King, and Equillis King; and great-grandsons: James Brayden Clay Rogers and Waylon Thomas Bremer. She is survived by her children: Sharita L. Meadows (Mike Bowen) of Clay City, Lavonna L. Meadows of Stanton, Levodis A. Meadows of Clay City, Roger N. Meadows of Georgetown, James K. Meadows (Melissa) of Nicholasville, and Mark A. Meadows (Lizette) of Clay City; her grandchildren: Ashlee Rae Chilton, Andrew (Kristina) Sears, Rachel Esteppe, Letisha (Aaron) Faulkner, Kristina (Jordan Benningfield) Esteppe, Eleanor (Randall) Humphries, Stephanie Johnson, Anthony (Brittany) Meadows, CJ Meadows, Haley (Wyatt) Bremer, Jonah (Leslie) Meadows, James Micah Meadows, Jaythus Nolan, Kirstin Meadows, Weston English Meadows, Cheyanne Covelli, and Riley Meadows; her great-grandchildren: Evelyn Chilton, Khloe Benningfield, Reighlen Noe, Hazelee Johnson, Asher Halsey, Mini Meadows, and Avery Faulkner; six sisters Vina Morton, Alta (Arnold) Roach, Olga (Roger) Sullivan, Margaret (Eugene) Collett, Marsha (Eddie) McCoy and Mable McIntosh; three brothers Bedford King, John King, and Chester (Janet) King; sisters-in-law: Jeannie King and Sue King; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Reece Anderson and Bro. Johnny Hurt will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, April 21, 2025. Interment will be held at King and Napier Cemetery, Lower Cane Creek Road in Stanton, with Ashlee Chilton, Letisha Faulkner, Jordan Benningfield, Jonah Meadows, CJ Meadows, and Anthony Meadows serving as active pallbearers.
