Maxine Smith, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky. She was born on July 28, 1949, to the late Ernest Smith and the late Aileen Hensley Smith. Maxine was the spirited owner and operator of C and C Trucking, where she reveled in the thrill of maneuvering her impressive big rig along the open roads. Known for her feisty personality, she never hesitated to speak her mind, ensuring her thoughts were always expressed without reservation. Maxine found joy in smoking and sipping on her beloved Pepsi, often enjoying them as she took in the scenery on her long hauls. Her tenacity was evident in the way she faced numerous medical challenges head-on, having overcome two strokes, two brain surgeries, and a heart attack with unwavering strength and resilience. Maxine had a magnetic personality that drew people in, particularly her family. She thrived on their attention and cherished the lively family gatherings that filled her home with laughter and love. Cooking was another passion of hers, and she took great pride in preparing meals that brought everyone together. Her meatloaf, a family favorite, was often a highlight of these gatherings, filled with hearty flavors and made with love. In addition to her parents, Maxine is preceded in death by one brother: Forest Smith; three sisters: Sharon Watkins, Faye Caudill, and Wilma Smith; and two great-grandchildren: Charles Crabtree Jr. and Trinity Crabtree. She is survived by two sons: Jeff (Jessica) Watkins of Clay City and J.R. (Amy) Smith of Jeffersonville; five daughters: Bridget (Chris) Willoughby of Jeffersonville, Donna Crabtree of Clay City, Brittany (Krystin) Hoffman of West Virginia, Cathy (David) Dunn of Mt. Sterling, and Carrie (Brandon) Patterson of Clay City; two brothers: Elmer (Sarah) Smith and Kenneth Smith, both of Jackson; three sisters: Rose (Steve) Nations of Winchester, Christine Smith, and Wanda Richardson, both of Jackson; fifteen grandchildren: Justin (Elizabeth) Lawson, Dustin (Kayla) Watkins, Jessica (Matt) Lyle, Amber (Justin) Everman, Chris Crabtree, Darby Crabtree, Austin Willoughby, Landon Smith, Lillie Smith, Noah Hoffman, Isabella Hoffman, Brooke Dunn, Dameon Dunn, Shelby (David) Smith, and Brian (Cassie) Dunn; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. James Harold Combs will be held at the funeral home at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Burial will be at Stanton Cemetery with Justin Lawson, Dustin Watkins, Chris Crabtree, Darby Crabtree, Austin Willoughby, Landon Smith, Brian Dunn, Justin Everman, Matthew Lyle, Triton Bradshaw, Landon Everman, Hunter Bradshaw, and Carson Ellison serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Phil Ray Hays, Oliver Hays, Eugene Smith, Doug Smith, Byron Smith, Steve Smith, Michael Smith, Tim Smith, Dennis Stivers, Brandon Smith, Elmer Smith, Jr., and Jason Richardson. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton.
