Nancy Reed

Nancy Reed, age 80, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at her home in Clay City, Kentucky. She was born in Irvine, Kentucky on March 20, 1944, to the late Virgil Cole and the late Bessie Powell Cole. Nancy was a janitor at the Avon Military Depot and a wonderful homemaker. She loved and was dedicated to her family, always ensuring everyone’s needs were met. Nancy loved having fun with her grandchildren and creating special memories with them. She was known for her infectious smile and had several hobbies that kept her occupied, including fishing, quilting, crafting, and crocheting. Nancy was known for her delicious jam cakes, pumpkin rolls, fried apple pies, and crème candy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Arthur Reed; a special friend: Carl McIntosh; two sons: Clint Cheyenne Whisman and Brett Anthony Whisman; two daughters: Rita Gail Spencer and Alma Jean Whisman; six brothers: Delbert Cole, Herman Cole, Clemon Cole, Harvey Cole, Alex Cole, and Alvie Cole; one sister: Betty Angel; one grandchild: Toby Clay Spencer; and one great-grandchild: Aiden Bishop. Nancy is survived by two sons: Charles (Amanda) Reed of Stanton and Jerry (Marsha) Reed of Elk Grove, California; a special son, Daniel Baker; a special son-in-law, John Spencer; two brothers: Estill Cole of Lancaster and Jerry Cole of Jeffersonville; five sisters: Lillie Cole of Lexington, Clarene (Nelson) Donahue of Lexington, Nannie Jones of Clay City, Bobbie Crowe of Winchester, and Violet (Linville) Spangler of Jeffersonville; six grandchildren: Basil Reed, Nicholas Reed, Abigail Reed, Raymond Reed, Stuart Reed, and Benjamin Bishop; and four great-grandchildren: Layla Osborne, Luna Bishop, Laiken Bishop, and Keira Bishop. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Linville Spangler will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be held at Salem Cemetery in Irvine with Basil Reed, Nicholas Reed, Abigail Reed, Benjamin Bishop, William Cole and Silas Chapman serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Brayden Townsend, Jamie Cole, Jason Cole, Gordon Crowe, Lee Cole, Tommy Cole, Billy Cole, Herman Cole, Jason McIntosh, and Daiwei Rao. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton.
