Susan Carnes Holliday, age 76, widow of Elson Holliday, ran into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at her home in Stanton, Kentucky. She was born in Covington, Kentucky, on March 28, 1948, as the only child to the late Thomas Carnes and the late Margaret Thatcher Carnes. Susan was a beloved daughter, treasured by her parents who nurtured her deep affection for animals, particularly horses. From a young age, she displayed remarkable intelligence and creativity, excelling as a student with a passion for writing poetry and crafting captivating stories. Her scholarly pursuits culminated in a bachelor’s degree, which opened the door to a dynamic career at Proctor and Gamble. There, she explored various roles, starting in International Buying and Accounts Payable, before finding her true calling in the Media Department. In this vibrant realm, she immersed herself in the intricacies of television, magazines, radio, and media training, eventually contributing to the ambitious “Media 98,” a groundbreaking project that consolidated all TV buying efforts. In 1994, love blossomed for Susan as she married Elson, her heart guided by their shared passion for horses that first brought them together on a scenic trail ride. By 1998, Susan embraced retirement, embarking on a serene life on their picturesque farm in Stanton. Together with Elson, she found joy in the company of their horses, dogs, and cats, spending many blissful days trail riding and welcoming visitors to their beautiful property. Susan’s devotion to her animals was unwavering, especially towards her beloved horses and rescue dogs. Her profound love for family ignited a passion for history, making her the proud keeper of cherished family heirlooms as an only child. A true fighter, Susan was a cancer survivor and a steadfast prayer warrior, dedicating her time to serve the Emmaus Community and actively participating in Shiloh Methodist Church and Stanton Christian Church. Throughout her life, Susan embarked on numerous adventures with friends, exploring distant places and cultivating lasting memories. She found her artistic flair in basket weaving during basket camps, where her creative spirit truly shone. Over the years, she welcomed many friends into her life, some for only a season and others for a lifetime, as God intricately wove their paths together. Susan was not just a friend; she was a deeply loving soul, offering her heart and unwavering support to those around her. In addition to her parents and her husband, Susan is preceded in death by many of her precious animals, most recently Lizzie along with six other dogs, four horses, and five cats. She is survived by a special son: Jamie Hon; a Godson: Justin Hall; cousins: Steven Anderson of Dallas, Georgia, Mike Anderson of Crystal River, Florida, Michael Anderson, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, and Missy Carnes Cain of Alexandria, Kentucky; sister-friends: the Delores Sisters, the YaYa Sisters, her P&G sisters; many basket weaving friends; many additional distant family members; many friends; and her beloved pets: her two horses, Tina and Earl, and her three dogs: Gus, Rosie, and Stella.
