William “Bill” Lawrence Thompson, age 80, of Clay City, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. Born in Ashland, Kentucky on April 22, 1943, he was the son of the late Meredith and Verna Boggs Thompson. Bill worked for Covenant Transport as a truck driver and was an Army Veteran. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He loved to hunt and fish and loved to sing and dance. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his former wife, Mary Jo Thompson; one son, Anthony Carl Thompson; five brothers: Clyde Thompson, Johnny Thompson, Joe Thompson, Luke Thompson and Tom Thompson and four sisters: Betty June Tackett, Ruth Cervantez, Mae Thompson and Della Green. He is survived by his four sons: William (Lucy) Thompson, Jr. of Stanton, James Edward (Lisa) Thompson of Clearfield, Ronnie (Donna) Thompson of Morehead and David (Sonya) Thompson of Stanton; two daughters: Rebecca Luman of Greenbrier, TN and Patricia Pardue of Morehead; one brother, Jack Thompson of Middletown, OH; twenty-two grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue in Stanton, Kentucky. Graveside services officiated by Brother Glen Maschino will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Collier Cemetery, 1788 KY 8 South Portsmouth, Kentucky. William Thompson, Jr., James Edward Thompson, Ronnie Thompson, David Thompson, Mason Trowell, Richard Thompson, Zach Thompson and George Thompson are serving as active pallbearers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton.
